Youth Program Coordinator Intern

We are looking for a creative, enthusiastic, youth focused and motivated person to join our team!
We are looking for a Youth Program Coordinator intern
This is an exciting opportunity for a youth (age 15 - 30) to learn about planning, instructing, and coordinating maker and STEM programming for youth aged 8-17. The position will run for 12 weeks, at 30 hours per week.
Our organization is dynamic and fast-paced. We’re looking for someone that loves working in a team, is passionate about helping youth learn and grow, is self-directed, and will thrive in a community of makers, entrepreneurs, startups, and creatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach age-appropriate hands-on STEM activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math using our laser cutter, 3D printer, woodshop, metal shop, and sewing resources
  • Build lesson plans in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning
  • Implement lesson plans in a fun, engaging, and creative manner
  • Create a fun and safe learning environment
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students and parents
  • Follow guidelines and safety protocols defined by Yukonstruct
  • Collaborate with other instructors and staff and participate in regular mentoring sessions

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be between the ages of 19 and 30
  • Candidate must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee. International students are not eligible.
  • Passionate about working with youth
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well-organized, adaptable, and committed
  • Fun, creative, and energetic
  • Passionate about learning new skills and receptive to training
  • Clear vulnerable sector check

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous teaching experience with youth aged 8-17
  • Experience in STEM subjects (Math, Technology, or Science)
  • Knowledge of teaching best practices and educational standards
