We are looking for a Youth Program Coordinator intern
This is an exciting opportunity for a youth (age 15 - 30) to learn about planning, instructing, and coordinating maker and STEM programming for youth aged 8-17. The position will run for 12 weeks, at 30 hours per week.
Our organization is dynamic and fast-paced. We’re looking for someone that loves working in a team, is passionate about helping youth learn and grow, is self-directed, and will thrive in a community of makers, entrepreneurs, startups, and creatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and teach age-appropriate hands-on STEM activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math using our laser cutter, 3D printer, woodshop, metal shop, and sewing resources
- Build lesson plans in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning
- Implement lesson plans in a fun, engaging, and creative manner
- Create a fun and safe learning environment
- Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students and parents
- Follow guidelines and safety protocols defined by Yukonstruct
- Collaborate with other instructors and staff and participate in regular mentoring sessions
Required Qualifications:
- Candidate must be between the ages of 19 and 30
- Candidate must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee. International students are not eligible.
- Passionate about working with youth
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Well-organized, adaptable, and committed
- Fun, creative, and energetic
- Passionate about learning new skills and receptive to training
- Clear vulnerable sector check
Desired Qualifications:
- Previous teaching experience with youth aged 8-17
- Experience in STEM subjects (Math, Technology, or Science)
- Knowledge of teaching best practices and educational standards
