Over 10 years into my career in cheese and I am nowhere near ready to pass on the cheese knife indefinitely (I love what I do way too much!) I am looking for that exceptional person who can step into my role when required, oversee daily operations, team management, customer care, inventory, ordering, receiving, social media engagement, troubleshooting… you know, wear all the hats!
Like I said, I am not going anywhere (well, except for maybe 6 months in 2028… we can chat about that) but I do need to avail more time to my family over the coming years. Finding the right individual to share the load , support the Crew and oversee operations when I am away from the shop is the key!
Initially we just want to get you settled in and comfortable with our long-term team and amazing clientele. You will have more than just hundreds of cheese names to learn; we have hundreds of regular customers too!
We will focus your training on developing a strong understanding of how we approach customer service and cheese attentiveness at Cultured. We have an incredible Crew with so much knowledge to pass on, so you will work closely with all of us, gleaning nuggets of wisdom and insight along the way. You will develop your hands on skills behind the cheese counter, eventually becoming fluent in our inventory and cheese care processes. We have a very appreciative cheese community in the Yukon, one of the greatest pleasures in operating this shop is exactly that, the people!
This position is 37.5 hours a week (Tuesday thru Saturday) 10am-6pm with some possible overtime hours during the Christmas season.
Following the busy holiday season, we will delve into the behind-the-scenes responsibilities of running a cheese shop, after we all recover of course!
What we need you to bring to the cheese counter:

  • A passion for people and a genuine commitment to building strong, respectful connections within our team and community.
  • Honesty, integrity, humbleness, humour, acute attention to detail, and a general joie de vivre! Do you speak French? That would be a bonus!
  • Keen curiosity and openness towards cheese and fine foods. I mean it’s cheese after all; does it get any better?
  • Professionalism, punctuality, resourcefulness, positive attitude, solution minded, pride in one’s work, self-motivation and efficiency.
  • People management level skills and/or qualifications, someone who wants to assume a role of greater responsibility.
  • Physical stamina, this position is VERY physically demanding, requiring a great degree of physical fitness with frequent heavy lifting, long periods of time on your feet, kneeling, squatting and navigating tight spaces, stairs and ladders, while juggling up to 3 wheels of cheese at a time. We’re teasing about the juggling, but hey, if you can juggle, all the better!
  • Quick mental math, calculating, budgeting, a general comfort around numbers.
  • Strong communication skills, spoken and written.
  • Ideally some tech skills would be great! This I cannot teach!
  • I could go on and on, but when we meet you can share all the other qualities that you feel would align with this opportunity and you can get to know me.

Sure, there are times we really bust our butts at a fast pace, and other times when we do way too much dusting. We can go from flat out fast paced to tumbleweed in the same day, and I need someone who can handle both with grace and initiative. I am of the mind that there is always something to do, I am looking for someone who shares that mindset!
