While this workshop is about marketing and communications, the Promotion “P” in the
marketing mix, it is inextricably linked to the overall philosophical focus of customer-centricity.
To do marketing well, you need to learn to stop talking about yourself and start talking about, to
and with your customer. You need to take the consumer's point of view and convert it into a
strategy. And that strategy, in a nutshell, is this: Get the Right Message to the Right audience in
the Right way. This is not news to most of you. What may be news, however, is what is meant
by “Right.” For many small businesses with little time and few resources, the right message may
just default to some variation on the features of the business or its products/services.
