How We Walk with the Land and Water is accepting expressions of interest for a qualified person to fill the role of Coordinator.
Background
How We Walk with the Land and Water (HWW) is an Indigenous-led land and water relationship planning initiative for creating tools and processes by applying ancestral and present-day knowledge to articulate relationships with the land and water and all that dwell there. HWW is a joint initiative between Carcross/Tagish First Nation (C/TFN), Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN), and Ta’an Kwäch’än Council (TKC).
HWW has made substantial progress in preparing for regional planning, through the development of tools and gathering of information in collaboration with the community. As this work continues, there is a need for another team member to join the HWW team to support coordination, administrative and engagement efforts.
Summary
Reporting to the HWW Project Manager, the Coordinator is responsible for supporting office administrative duties and engagement activities for HWW, in collaboration with the HWW staff and committees. This will be a term contract position.
HWW is seeking a detailed-oriented, conscientious, team player with a can-do attitude. This position involves three key areas of responsibility:

  • Engagement & event support: schedule meetings and events, book venues, coordinate event logistics, prepare event materials, contact attendees, & note take. Organize post-event information, consolidate event feedback, and prepare final reports, etc.;
  • Committees support: schedule committee meetings, coordinate and prepare agendas and other meeting materials, call Elders & attendees, note take during meeting, and distribute final notes and/or reports etc.;
  • Office coordination and administrative tasks: order office supplies, support printing requests, organize office filing systems, communicate with building managers, oversee general office organization, etc.

Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume):

  • Relevant post-secondary education or relevant work experience.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and online team (doodle poll) and data sharing platforms including the Google Suite (e.g. Google Docs, Google Drive);
  • Writing skills, with experience writing meeting minutes, agendas & briefing notes;
  • Experience with scheduling & coordinating meetings and/or event/engagement planning & logistics;
  • Knowledge and experience in community engagement, heritage and culture, and/or planning is an asset;
  • Coordination of multiple projects is an asset; and
  • Experience working in a First Nation government setting is an asset.

Required knowledge and skills (what we will assess on/may interview on):

  • Knowledge of KDFN – TKC - C/TFN heritage, history, culture, demographics, goals, and aspirations, along with the Final and Self-Government agreements;
  • Strong connection to KDFN – TKC - C/TFN community and understanding of cultural values and protocols;
  • Adaptability/Flexibility - Adapts and is flexible to changing work environments, work priorities and organizational needs. Able to effectively deal with change and diverse people;
  • Teamwork/collaboration – Strong interpersonal skills. Interacts with people effectively. Able and willing to share and receive information. Collaborates within and across groups. Supports group decisions;
  • Communication - Strong written and oral communication skills. Expresses ideas succinctly and effectively. Organizes and delivers information appropriately. Listens actively;
  • Integrity - Shares complete and accurate information. Maintains confidentiality of highly sensitive information. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures. Meets own commitments; and,
  • Problem solving - Analyzes problems by gathering and organizing all relevant information. Develops appropriate solutions with minimal oversight.
  • Respect - Respects Traditional Knowledge and practices of First Nations ways.

Conditions of Employment:

  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search;
  • Valid Yukon class 5 driver’s license is an asset.

Job Requirements:

  • Sporadic evening or weekend work is required for workshops and events outside of regular hours.
  • We work as a collaborative team, so we require that staff are physically present at the HWW office.
