Forestry Field Assistant

Title: Forestry Field Assistant
Term: Temporary Employment from June 18 – 29
Hourly Pay: $30
Schedule: 8 to 10-hour shifts
Location: Yukon
Lumberfolk Forest Consultants is seeking a Forestry Field Assistant to join their team for a very short 12-day contract. The Field Assistant will be required to travel outside the Territory for remote field work. The first two days would consist of driving 14 hours (~7 hours each day) to a remote community, camping along the way. A helicopter will transport the team to a bed and breakfast where we’ll stay for the field work portion of contract. The Field Assistant will be this responsible for working with a Forester and helping them re-measure permanent sample plots within forestland in the Northern Boreal Forest. Travel to each sampling plot location will be via helicopter, work days will consist of 8-10 hour shifts depending on production. Transportation, accommodations, and meals will be provided.
Duties
Role and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Onboarding
  • Implementing daily safety talks and safety plans
  • Navigating to sample plot locations
  • Collecting field data under guidance and supervision of a Forester
  • Recording field data on a tablet

About Lumberfolk
Lumberfolk Forest Consultants Ltd. was founded in 2024. Lumberfolk provide forest management and land use planning services within all forest types across Canada. The company works with landowners to develop and design land use plans that meet their environmental, social, and economic goals and objectives. Lumberfolk have experience designing inventories and methodologies for data collection, summarizing results and mapping for operational planning, analyzing scenarios, reporting on assumptions, limitations, risks and sensitives, developing monitoring plans, and making recommendations. Services also include block layout, reconnaissance, timber cruising, forest inventory data collection, silviculture surveys, and field trainings. Based out of Whitehorse, YT, the Lumberfolk team is looking for a field assistant to complete the re-measurement of a forest carbon inventory. Transportation, accommodations, and meals will be provided.
Qualifications
Mandatory qualifications for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Forestry, Engineering, or Environment related field from a North American University
  • Canadian citizen
  • Professional license or practice permit is an asset
  • Class 5 or higher driver’s license is an asset
  • Experience using a GPS or willingness to learn
  • Knowledge of the outdoors in the Northern Boreal Forest
  • Standard First Aid is considered an asset
