We are looking for a multi-skilled, highly experienced hands-on Manager to look after our Gravel Operations and Equipment Fleet.
We are seeking an experienced Gravel & Equipment Manager to lead one of the most critical functions within our Equipment Division. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, this role is responsible for the efficient coordination of gravel operations, heavy equipment logistics, and staff management across our construction sites and gravel pits.
This is a leadership role that requires a proactive, organized, and technically knowledgeable individual with strong communication and team-building skills.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Scheduling
- Organize daily and long-term scheduling of equipment and gravel operations
- Maintain accurate layout and grade control on construction projects
- Track and report on progress, job costs, and equipment use
- Attend project and technical meetings as needed
Gravel Operations
- Manage day-to-day operations at Golden Horn and McLean Lake gravel pits
- Coordinate staff and equipment to ensure consistent aggregate supply
- Track outgoing gravel via load counts or scale slips
- Maintain adequate inventory and timely reporting
Equipment Management
- Oversee daily inspections, maintenance, and repairs of all equipment
- Ensure proper integration of equipment on-site
- Maintain accurate logs of equipment use and delivery sheets
Cost Control & Documentation
- Assist with project billing and monthly cost reviews
- Ensure all change orders and receipts are documented
- Maintain spreadsheets for gravel and equipment tracking
Health & Safety
- Promote and enforce safety procedures and practices across all sites
- Conduct regular pit inspections, safety meetings, and emergency preparedness
- Ensure secure sites and compliance with all safety regulations
Quality Control
- Ensure projects are built to specification and high standards
- Liaise with inspectors, architects, subcontractors, and clients
- Support project start-up meetings and flag potential issues early
Team Leadership
- Supervise pit and equipment personnel
- Review attendance and timesheets
- Support staff development and promote a collaborative work culture
Qualifications
Required:
- Heavy Equipment Certification and proven hands-on experience
- Class 5 (or higher) commercial license with airbrake endorsement
- Clean driver’s abstract and reliable transportation
- Experience in roadbuilding, civil construction, and aggregate production
- Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Email systems
Preferred:
- Background in geotechnical engineering or materials testing
- Experience in First Nations governance, training, and capacity development
- Prior employment with major civil contractors in Whitehorse
- Demonstrated leadership in safety culture and safe work practices
