Interim Producer, Arts in the Park - Parental Leave Cover

Music Yukon is seeking an experienced live events producer to serve as Interim Producer of Arts in the Park during a parental leave. This contract involves managing the final weeks and reporting for the 2025 season, and leading the planning, programming, delivery, and reporting of the 2026 season.

ABOUT ARTS IN THE PARKProduced by Music Yukon, Arts in the Park is a six-week outdoor summer festival that presents live performances and interactive visual art experiences in an accessible and free outdoor venue in downtown Whitehorse. Arts in the Park presents free live music performances from 12pm to 1pm from Monday to Friday, paired with opportunities for audience members to engage with a different visual artist onsite each week. ABOUT THIS POSITIONThis position is a contract to cover a parental leave, taking over the Arts in the Park Producer role for the last two weeks of the six-week performance season, completing season wrap up tasks, and reporting to public funders on the 2025 season. The successful candidate will receive training with the existing Producer at the beginning of the contract.
Following the submission of reporting to public funders, the parental leave contract will include the planning, fund development, programming, and delivery of the 2026 Arts in the Park season, including season wrap up and the submission of reporting.
During the performance season, the Producer is onsite daily in Lepage Park, generally from 10am to 2pm, and longer hours on Wednesday to accommodate the youth-focused evening shows. Ongoing administration is required during the six-week performance season. The off-season administration, planning, programming, and reporting surrounding Arts in the Park can be completed from a home/remote office or at the Music Yukon office, and this work has a variable demand on time ranging from 5 to 25 hours per week.
POSITION DUTIESFor the 2025 season, the Interim Producer will:

  • Take over the administration and delivery of daily performances in Lepage Park from June 30, 2025 to July 11, 2025;
  • Oversee the daily operations and requirements of performances, including but not limited to reviewing of artist stage plots and needs, ensuring any required materials are onsite, participating in gear set up and strike, and issuing cheques to artists;
  • Uphold Music Yukon’s Code of Conduct and dedication to Safer Spaces;
  • Supervise the Sound Technician and the Associate Producer during performances including daily set up and strike, and provide support and instruction as needed;
  • Host both artists and audience members in Lepage Park, representing Music Yukon and ensuring all feel welcome and safe within the outdoor venue;
  • Contribute to social media in collaboration with the Associate Producer and the Music Yukon team;
  • Following the final performance return sound equipment, supplies, and more to Music Yukon facilities and offsite storage;
  • Gather data and generate narrative material to complete funding reports for public funders, including completing an actuals budget for the season; and
  • Report to and maintain open communication with Music Yukon’s Executive Director and ensure any issues or needs for additional support are communicated promptly.

For the 2026 season, the Interim Producer will oversee all aspects of Arts in the Park, including but not limited to:

  • Maintaining the relevant Music Yukon email account, including filing all documents and files related to Arts in the Park on the Music Yukon Google Drive;
  • Applying for and securing public funding from multiple levels of government;
  • Securing private donations and corporate sponsorships;
  • Generating a project budget (based on 2025 actuals) and working within it as funding is confirmed;
  • Ensure all deliverables are met as laid out in project and organizational funding and sponsorship agreements;
  • Confirm ongoing partner relationships that support the performance season;
  • Issue a call for performing artists and visual artists, advertise the call;
  • Program performing artists for the 36 performances over the six-week season, and six visual artists/collectives (one per week of the season), keeping programming goals and Music Yukon priorities in mind;
  • Issue contracts to all artists and ensure they are complete prior to performances;
  • Generate a master schedule, documentation surrounding fees, and more to enable the administration of the season;
  • Organize info re: visual artist needs, artist photos, bios, and more to contribute to advertising and social media;
  • Hire an Associate Producer and Sound Technician;
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations including daily set up and strike of gear, supervision of staff, emcee duties, sponsorship relations, management of the park, requisition and issuing of artist cheques, and more;
  • Uphold Music Yukon’s Code of Conduct and dedication to Safer Spaces;
  • Contribute to marketing and advertising prior to the performance season, and social media throughout the season;
  • Complete all required reporting (financial and narrative) to public funders; and
  • Report to and maintain open communication with Music Yukon’s Executive Director and ensure any issues or needs for additional support are communicated.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • Experience in live music/theatre production;
  • Deadline driven and self-motivated;
  • Proactive communicator;
  • Significant work experience effectively establishing and maintaining budgets;
  • Fundraising and revenue generation, including the development of grant applications, sponsor relations, administration of funds, and report preparation;
  • Significant experience in project management, production management, and/or event management;
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite. Canva is an asset;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills;
  • Experience with basic marketing and social media competency; and
  • Familiarity with the Yukon music and visual arts communities.

CONTRACT TERM & COMPENSATION
The deadline for applications for this position is May 7, 2025 and the expected term of the contract is June 23, 2025 to October 31, 2026. The contractor will receive a fee of $30,000 based on an anticipated 750 hours at $40 per hour.
