Expression of Interest: Lighting Designer – Arctic Winter Games 2026 Cultural Program
The Whitehorse 2026 Arctic Winter Games (AWG) is seeking a skilled and creative Lighting Designer to bring the performances of the Cultural Program and Gala to life. This role involves collaborating with the artistic team to design and execute lighting that enhances the vision, mood, and impact of the performances during Games Week, March 8–15, 2026, in Whitehorse, Yukon.
About the Role
Under the direction of the Artistic Director and Cultural Program and Gala Producer, the Lighting Designer will:
- Be available for preparation prior to the Games and all scheduled technical rehearsals from March 8–15 (inclusive).
- Design and execute a cohesive lighting plan for all Cultural Program performances, including the Gala and other scheduled events.
- Attend all rehearsals, technical run-throughs, and shows, ensuring the lighting design aligns with the overall artistic vision and supports the performances.
- Collaborate with the Artistic Director, Stage Designer, and other production team members to ensure smooth integration of lighting with set design, choreography, and performances.
- Oversee the setup, operation, and teardown of lighting equipment at all performance venues.
- Provide technical expertise to ensure safety, efficiency, and professionalism in all lighting operations.
- Work within budget and resource constraints, liaising with the production team to source necessary equipment and materials.
- Mentor cultural participants and offer insights into the role of lighting in performance, if required.
- Prepare a final report detailing the lighting design process, successes, and recommendations for future projects.
