Overview:
Dease River First Nation is seeking a highly motivated individual with good communication and organizational skills to take on the position of Cultural and Recreation Coordinator. This position will assist DRFN in building capacity within their current health and wellness initiatives. Collaborating with DRFN'S Executive Director, the Coordinator's role will involve creating culturally relevant supports and recreational activities to support health and wellness for the community of Good Hope Lake.
The Coordinator will be focusing on the vision for health and well-being in the community. In addition, the Coordinator will be supported during the first year through engagement in training programs to enhance the Cultural Coordinator's skills, knowledge, and experience:
- Financial literacy and budgetary courses
- Lateral kindness/violence (Indigenous Focusing-Oriented Therapy)
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Coordinator will be responsible for the following:
- Undertaking foundational training
- Planning and implementing language and cultural and on-the-land projects and recreation activities through engagement with the community.
- Building resource lists of community supports and external organizations
- Contributing towards the development of wellness programs in community.
- Coordinating and building cultural calendars (for events, workshops, gatherings)
- Proposal writing on an as-needed basis
Qualifications:
- Excellent coordination and communication skills
- Good written skills to all levels of Government and Non-Government Organizations
- Experience in organizing and coordinating community events, meetings, or gatherings
- Must have Class 5 driver’s license
- Familiar with DRFN culture and traditions

Duration:
This is a one-year full-time term position with the potential for an extension.
Salary:
To be negotiated depending on qualifications and experience.
Based on full time position, 35 hrs, 5 days per week.
