Blood Ties is looking for a Harm Reduction Worker for the Outreach Van
Casual Position: minimum 4-6 shifts per month including over the summer months
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Delivering care and non-judgmental support to people who use substances and people experiencing housing insecurity in outreach setting including: lay counselling, advocacy, systems navigation, crisis intervention, and other support activities.
- Building relationships and develop rapport with people accessing the Outreach Van.
- Providing safer use harm reduction education and equipment, including naloxone training.
- The Harm Reduction Worker connects with marginalized street-involved populations through evening work on the Outreach Van
Skills & Knowledge:
- Knowledge of systemic issues such as poverty and stigma
- Knowledge of and experience with principles and practice of harm reduction
- Good communication skills
- Ability and confidence to interact effectively with diverse and marginalized populations
- Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Basic computer skills
- Knowledge of systemic issues encountered by Indigenous people when accessing support services
- Knowledge and/or experience in lay counselling with marginalized populations who have experiences with trauma and/or substance use
- Post-Secondary Education in the Social/Human and/or Health Services field or equivalent relevant experience
Conditions of Employment:
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends *casual employees are required to work 4-6 shifts per month, including at least 2 weekend shifts (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or stat holidays)*
- Valid Yukon Drivers License
- Current CPR and Standard First AID certification
- RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends
