Duties:
• Organize and provide weekly respite care to participants in their homes or at the center, providing childcare, support, light housework, etc.
• Provide information of services available through the Healthy Families Healthy Babies Program (HFHB) to potential participants.
• Be current with all aspects of the HFHB and provide this service to all eligible caregivers. This will include: breastfeeding, nutrition, self-care, pre & post-natal care, baby development, etc.
• Stay well informed of community and territorial agencies and organizations and be able to make appropriate referrals or advocate when necessary.
• Research topics of interest for participants as needed.
• Maintain contact, and provide support/care to all CPNP participants even when respite is not required.
• Maintain a healthy professional and empowering relationship with parents, both pre and post-natally.
• Evaluate and consult with HFHB staff to determine the needs of participants in home services.
• Assist in the design and implementation of a program that is suited to the community/clients’ interests.
• Review and evaluate the in-house service for each client every six weeks.
• Keep up-to-date statistics of all outreach visits and program attendance.
• Assist in the preparation/facilitation of fundraising activities, workshops, and special events.
• Assist with developing and implementing guidelines and policies to govern the home visit process.
• Work closely with all staff to provide monthly luncheons and meal deliveries to HFHB participants.
• Set up appointments, keeping in mind time set aside for center-related duties and preparation for programming.
• Be able to provide a listening ear and be a comfort to families.
• Supervise and play with children and infants during workshops-when needed.
• Be flexible and imaginative when working with clients and their needs.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized center: watering plants, cleaning, shoveling snow, etc.
• Assist with advertising, monthly newsletters, newspaper articles, brochures, etc.
• Using the program’s vehicle- provide transportation, deliver equipment/supplies/meals to participants as needed.
• Complete paid trainings of related interest, facilitate according to certification requirements if needed.
Ideal Qualifications:• Extensive experience caring for infants and young children• Knowledge of a variety of styles of child rearing and normal child development• Knowledge of breastfeeding theory and benefits• Knowledge of nutritional eating and it’s benefits to mother and baby• Ability to adhere to a strict level of confidentiality• Ability to listen in an empathetic, non-judgmental way• Ability to demonstrate and model parenting skills, time management, budgeting techniques, and other skills as required in the home• Ability to maintain open and respectful communication while maintaining professional boundaries with clients• Ability to develop, implement and facilitate support groups/fund raising activities/special events/workshops• Punctual, dependable and able to work flexible hours• Ability to resolve conflict appropriately • Self-motivated and able to organize time and tasks with minimal supervision• Good communication skills, both written and oral• Knowledge of community resources/agencies an asset • Willingness to take related training, as it comes available• Cross-Cultural experience • Ability to be creative, imaginative and fun with all ages • An interest in cooking and baking • Food Safe CertificationRequired:• Valid driver’s license• Vulnerable Sector Check• Valid First Aid/CPR (training provided if needed)
