Maintenance/Handyman

Role
A maintenance job involves general repairs such as patching and painting, initial check of faulty appliances, conducting routine inspections, replacement of light bulbs and fixtures, performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and addressing issues promptly across various areas like plumbing, clearing drains, electrical, carpentry, painting apartments, installing flooring etc. Key responsibilities include inspecting equipment for faults, making repairs, maintaining building cleanliness and appearance, managing tools and inventory, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspections and Monitoring: Routinely inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance needs, faults, or potential problems.
  • Repairs: Perform general maintenance and repair tasks on facilities and equipment, including fixing plumbing, electrical issues, carpentry work (such as repairing doors and windows,) and painting surfaces.
  • Small scale renovations: Perform renovations of residential apartments as needed. This may include replacement of flooring, patching and painting of walls, replacing electrical and plumbing fixtures, etc.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Implement preventive maintenance procedures to ensure equipment, systems, and facilities are functioning optimally and to prevent breakdowns.
  • Appliance and Equipment Installation: Install and maintain various equipment and appliances within a facility.
  • Groundskeeping: Perform general landscaping and groundskeeping duties, such as mowing lawns, collecting trash, and maintaining garden equipment.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to health, safety, and building codes and regulations, and maintain equipment and facilities in a safe condition.
  • Record Keeping: Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, including tasks performed, materials used, and any costs incurred.
  • Collaboration: Work with other maintenance staff, contractors, or technicians to complete more complex tasks or projects.
  • Tool and Inventory Management: Maintain, clean, and properly store equipment and tools.

Essential Skills

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with hand and power tools. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems is an asset.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve equipment or system operation issues effectively.
  • Physical Stamina: Capacity to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform various manual tasks.
  • Attention to Detail: Diligence in inspecting for issues, performing repairs accurately, and maintaining safety standards.

Probationary Period

  • 3 months of probationary period.

Working Hours, Salary and Benefits

  • 40 hours per week. Biweekly schedule to be provided by supervisor.
  • $25 per hour
  • After successful completion of probationary period, the employee will be eligible for two weeks (10 days) of paid vacation accrued during the fiscal year.
