Tłı̨chǫ Executive Officer – Tłı̨chǫ Government (TG)
The Tłı̨chǫ Government (TG) is looking for a highly effective and collaborative leader who will work with the Chief’s Executive Council (CEC) to realize the Tłı̨chǫ Nation 50-Year Vision Statement, “By 2075, the Tłı̨chǫ Nation will be a strong, self-sustaining, and united people, deeply rooted in our language, culture, and traditions, while thriving in a modern world” . The successful candidate will have senior leadership experience, an understanding of modern treaty organizations, success partnering with all levels of government on a variety of projects, prior experience working with Indigenous communities, a high degree of transparency and political acumen, strong financial acumen, and the ability to work collaboratively with the CEC, TG staff, TG partners and Tłı̨chǫ community members.
The Tłı̨chǫ Executive Officer (TEO) carries out their role in accordance with Section 2.1 of the Tłı̨chǫ Constitution, which states: The purpose of the Tłı̨chǫ Government and its’ institutions is to act in the best interest of the Tłı̨chǫ and to respect all laws including Tłı̨chǫ laws, by among other things, acting to preserve, protect and promote our Aboriginal and Treaty rights and way of life – including our culture, language, heritage, lands, economy and resources – for all Tłı̨chǫ today and for the future generations to come for as long as the land shall last.
The Opportunity:
The Tłı̨chǫ Executive Officer (TEO) provides strategic, policy and operational leadership, ensuring alignment with the Tłı̨chǫ Government’s mission, vision and accountability to Tłı̨chǫ citizens. This role also champions organizational transformation, cultural integration and long-term sustainability of Tłı̨chǫ Government.
Reporting directly to the CEC, the TEO oversees long-term strategic planning, financial oversight, program delivery, and intergovernmental relations. The TEO also acts as the primary liaison with other governments, industry, and external stakeholders and represents TG at regional, territorial, national, and international meetings and on administrative and intergovernmental forums.
Requirements:
Providing strategic leadership to the organization, the TEO will foster a culturally safe and accountable workplace that supports exceptional organizational performance and partnership. An Indigenous governance or public administration background would be beneficial, as is proven success partnering with all levels of government on various projects, experience working with Indigenous communities, a high degree of transparency and political acumen, and the ability to work cooperatively with diverse partners and the CEC.
Key Experiential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Indigenous governance, public administration, business administration, or related field is required, or equivalent work experience. Masters’ degree is preferred.
- Substantial management and leadership experience gained through 10 or more years progressively responsible assignments with a track record of success.
- Strong financial management skills for the oversight and management of significant operational budgets
- Strong human resources leadership with experience in managing a large, dispersed team of professionals
- Demonstrated experience in complex problem solving and decision making
- Strong skills in the planning and conducting of high-level negotiations
- Experience working within Indigenous communities in the north is preferred
- Experience reporting to a Board of Directors or Indigenous Council
- Knowledge and understanding of modern treaties, with knowledge of the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement preferred.
- A comprehensive understanding of the Canadian, northern and regional political, environmental, social and economic issues.
- A proven track record and commitment to culturally safe work environments.

This position is preferably based out of Behchokǫ̀, but could be based in Yellowknife, Whatì, Gamètì or Wekweètì, with regular travel required.
