Site Supervisor – Job Description
The Site Supervisor's job is to lead, manage, and oversee all activities on a construction site to ensure the project is completed on schedule, within budget, and according to safety and quality standards. Key responsibilities include coordinating subcontractors, enforcing safety regulations, monitoring project progress, maintaining communication with stakeholders, resolving on-site issues, and managing documentation. They are the primary on-site leader, responsible for the day-to-day operations and ensuring the project meets the planned design and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management:
    • Plan, organize, and direct all construction operations from start to finish, ensuring work is completed according to specifications and deadlines.
  • Team Coordination:
    • Supervise and coordinate on-site crews, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure efficient workflow and timely material delivery.
  • Safety Enforcement:
    • Monitor and enforce adherence to all safety regulations and best practices, maintaining a secure and compliant work environment.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect ongoing work to ensure it meets the highest possible standards and quality requirements.
  • Budget and Schedule Management:
    • Track expenses, manage resources, and monitor progress against the established project schedule and budget.
  • Communication:
    • Serve as the main point of contact on site, providing clear and regular updates to project managers, architects, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Identify and resolve on-site challenges, conflicts, and unexpected delays or issues in a timely manner.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records, including daily logs, progress reports, safety records, and permits.

  • Leadership and Management:
    • Ability to motivate and manage a diverse construction team.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Understanding of construction processes, blueprints, and engineering standards.
  • Communication:
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively coordinate with various stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving:
    • Aptitude for identifying issues and developing timely and informed solutions.
  • Organizational Skills:
    • Excellent ability to organize, plan, and control complex site operations.
  • Physical Fitness:
    • Capability to handle the physical demands of the job, such as walking, standing for long periods, and potentially lifting.

Candidate’s Ideal Background and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years commercial and residential construction experience, preferably in carpentry or related field
  • Minimum 5 Years managing other workers
  • Understanding of Current Canadian Building Code
  • Experience coordinating construction subtrades at the rough-in and finishing stages
  • Experience managing construction sites an asset
  • Experience setting construction schedules and managing crews to keep work on schedule
