Talent Acquisition Consultant

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Organizational Effectiveness, the Talent Acquisition Consultant is responsible for coordinating and executing all aspects of the recruitment process across the organization. This includes working collaboratively with internal stakeholders to develop and implement recruitment strategies aimed at attracting both active and passive candidates. A key responsibility of this role is to ensure Northwestel hires the best possible talent with an emphasis on meeting Employment Equity targets and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. The Talent Acquisition Consultant is expected to provide timely, accurate, and exceptional customer service, and consistently demonstrate professionalism as the recruitment face of Northwestel.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the full-cycle recruitment process for positions below the director level, collaborating closely with hiring managers, HR Consultants, and the HR team. Ensure all recruitment activities reflect current best practices and are grounded in principles of fairness, transparency, and Employment Equity. Ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements; screening applicants for requirements; and administering job specific assessments.
  • Design and implement innovative sourcing strategies to attract both active and passive candidates utilizing digital platforms, social media, and targeted outreach. Build robust talent pipelines that prioritize candidates from underrepresented groups, especially those who reflect the diversity of our northern population.
  • Partner with business leaders to assess workforce needs, identify talent gaps, and develop sourcing plans that integrate Employment Equity objectives. Ensure selection criteria and interview processes are inclusive, objective and free from bias.
  • Prepare monthly reporting on recruitment initiatives, diversity metrics, and progress toward Employment Equity and northern representation goals. Leverage data analytics to inform decision-making and continuously improve recruitment outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with Marketing to develop an authentic employment brand that highlights Northwestel’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity. Position Northwestel as an employer of choice for candidates from all backgrounds.
  • Oversee daily operations within the recruitment portal of the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), ensuring accurate, timely, and professional management of requisitions, approvals, postings, and recruitment actions.
  • Gather and analyze competitive intelligence regarding recruitment trends, compensation, and diversity initiatives within the northern region. Use insights to strengthen Northwestel’s competitive advantage and inform proactive talent acquisition strategies.
  • Conduct regular meetings with hiring managers to review recruitment effectiveness, discuss diversity and equity progress, and identify opportunities for improvement. Implement feedback-driven changes to ensure ongoing alignment with best practices.
  • Represent Northwestel at recruitment and career fair events, with a focus on engaging candidates from northern and underrepresented communities. Proactively promote Northwestel’s commitment to Employment Equity and workforce diversity.
  • Coordinate summer student and co-op recruitment programs.
  • Support HR management in developing and executing initiatives that advance Employment Equity, diversity, and inclusion across all HR functional areas. Serve as a subject matter expert in equitable talent acquisition practices.
  • Manage recruitment metrics, tracking, and reporting systems to monitor progress toward diversity and equity goals.
  • Undertake special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned, with a continuous focus on advancing modern, equitable, and inclusive talent acquisition approaches within Northwestel.

Knowledge And Skills Required

  • Diploma in Human Resources or related discipline with a minimum of three years in Talent Acquisition, supporting union, professional and management level opportunities. Alternative combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • CPHR Designation would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated passion for recruiting and a strong desire for continued learning and development.
  • Knowledge of labour laws, collective agreements, and employment standards.
  • Experience in active recruitment including searching and sourcing through online and social media platforms.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and can multi-task, prioritize, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Above average interpersonal, relationship management, oral and written communication, and listening skills, as well as the ability to negotiate and solve problems.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills, with proven ability to manage multiple requisitions in multiple different stages.
  • Excellent computer skills particularly with Microsoft Office Suite in a Microsoft Windows environment, including MS Excel.
  • Ability to work with confidential information on a regular basis.
  • Experience with HRIS database systems would be an asset.
