Position Summary:
The Truck Mechanic is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and inspections to ensure the safe and efficient operation of trucks, trailers, and support vehicles used in civil construction. This role involves diagnosing and resolving mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, carrying out preventative maintenance, and supporting field operations by minimizing equipment downtime. The Truck Mechanic keeps the fleet reliable, safe, and ready for daily construction activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of trucks, trailers, and support vehicles used in civil construction.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues, completing repairs in a timely and effective manner.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance as scheduled, documenting work performed.
  • Assist with field repairs or service calls to minimize equipment downtime.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow company and industry safety protocols at all times.
  • Ensure repairs and maintenance meet regulatory standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Use tools and equipment properly, maintaining a safe and organized work area.
  • Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.

Tools, Parts & Inventory Support

  • Use shop tools and diagnostic equipment appropriately and safely.
  • Notify the Shop Manager when parts, supplies, or tools are needed.
  • Help maintain shop equipment in good working order.

Communication & Coordination

  • Work closely with the Shop Manager or Operations team to prioritize repairs.
  • Provide clear updates on repair status, estimated timelines, and equipment readiness.
  • Collaborate with drivers and operators to troubleshoot reported equipment issues.

Quality & Reliability

  • Complete all work to a high standard of quality, ensuring trucks and equipment are safe and reliable for field use.
  • Test and verify repairs before returning equipment to service.
  • Identify and communicate recurring or potential issues to the Shop Manager.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in ongoing training and stay current on repair techniques and equipment updates.
  • Support apprentices or junior mechanics by sharing knowledge and safe practices when appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Red Seal Truck and Transport Technician certification (preferred), or Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Red Seal Technician, ideally within a civil construction company.
  • Exposure to diesel engines (including emissions), hydraulics, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to review and interpret technical specifications and repair manuals.
  • Proficient in written and verbal English.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

Hours

  • 8 hours a day
  • 40 hours a week
  • OT as required
