The YFGA is looking to hire 4 Fish Ladder Attendants who are available to work from mid-June until the end of August at the Whitehorse Rapids Fishway. This is a full time (40 hrs/week) seasonal position.
This is a fantastic summer job for a student entering or graduating from their last year of high school or a college/university student who is pursuing fisheries, biology, environmental sciences or a related diploma/degree. Being outgoing, friendly, energetic and detail oriented are ideal traits for this position.
Previous experience with fish, public speaking, and biology/ecology related coursework is considered an asset.
Main job duties include (but are not limited to):
• Professional and friendly attitude
• Delivering individual or group interpretive tours in a clear and effective manner
• Counting and identifying sex and origin (wild vs hatchery) of returning adult salmon
• Assisting the Whitehorse Rapids Fish Hatchery staff in the collection and spawning of the Chinook salmon broodstock
• Monitoring freshwater species
• General day to day facility maintenance
• Handling, depositing, and recording of daily sales
• Ensuring staff and public safety
